Improving building consent data reporting

Published: 15 April 2024

On 20 March, the Government announced improvements to performance monitoring of the building consent system.

Improvements are being made to the performance monitoring of the building consent system. We will now regularly collect building consent and code compliance certificate data from Building Consent Authorities and will publish the information quarterly.

Recording and publishing this data is an important step to streamline the building consent system, as it provides regular real-world information highlighting the performance and capacity of the sector to deliver homes, says Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment System Strategy and Performance Manager, Micheal Warren.

“The initial data will provide a baseline and allow us to identify insights and trends over time, enabling improvements to performance monitoring of the building consent system.“

Feedback received in the Building Consent System Review consultations highlighted the need for better monitoring and insights into the building consent system. Collecting this data will give us a clearer understanding of the overall performance on the consenting system.

“We expect to publish the first set of data towards the end of this month or beginning of May,” said Micheal.
